BLOGSVILLE PEEPS PLEASE COME HITHER!!

Quick Edit - We have a new contributor on this blog, his name is Messiah. Chai, the things I learnt from this dude had me laughing my ass off. He is going to be 'anonymous' so nobody should be SNOOPY!
I have been talking to this boy called Chuks on my Facebook and this boy has been trying to convince me of the err of my 'religious views'. Now because of this boy I have decided to do this post, because it is going to explain once and forever what I think about 'Faith'. Sogbo? Ok lets move on.
First of all I am going to teach you all one phrase called 'False Dilemma'.
False Dilemma - is is based on the assumption that the choices offered are the only choices. By focusing on the choice, the decision to be made, the other person is distracted from the fact that there may be other alternatives.

This is usually presented as two choices.
Usually, a lot of things happen to us in this life that are strange or mysterious and maybe we have some good luck and we attribute what has happened in our lives at that point as being a 'MIRACLE' from God".
Now I do not know about how many of you have watched 'Crash' but I will give you all a breakdown of what happened towards the end of the move.

'An Arabian Father had beef with a Mexican dude who had a daugher. The Arabian dude went over to the Mexican dude's house to shoot him dead, as he accosted the Mexican dude he pulled out his gun. But the little daughter of the Mexican ran into her father's arms just as the bullet was shot at her 'Dad'. The Mexican thought that he was dead and the Arabian dude thought he had killed the daugher of the Mexican. Now prior to the shooting, the Mexican dude had told his daughter that he had given her an 'invisible cloak' which would make her bulletproof so when she was now shot. There was no blood and she had not been hit, the Arabian dude thought it was a miracle, and the Mexican dude also though it was a Miracle. Now the Arabian dude went to his house and unbeknownst to the Arabian guy, his daughter had replaced the bullets in his gun with 'blanks' meaning that there were no live bullets in the gun. But she never told her dad what she had done. The Arabian dude now told his daughter that he had met an angel from 'God' and that the daughter of the Mexican dude is his angel, now that arabian dude will now start being a 'good' man and he will probably give testimony/offering in his church/mosque and his faith has been thoroughly throughly strengthened. The same goes for the Mexican dude who's daughter was shot, he would now view what happened as a miracle and he will go and say God saved his daughter and given testimony in church and his faith will also be strengthened.'
What is my point? My point is this, both the Mexican and Arabian dude have had their faith strengthened abi? But what is that their faith based on? A lie. Because they both do not know that the bullets in the gun was a blank. And this is the case in so many so many cases. A lot of people get their 'Faith' reinforced daily by little things in their day and they'll say stuff like 'God' helped me today, yet they never know what actually caused the things that made them happy. I mean think about it? For all they know it could be the devil who did them a favor? I mean if we are going to thank God for good things, we should thank him for bad things as well nah. I mean take the 'Haitian Earthquake' for example, we should thank God for that afterall only 100 thousand people died but it could have been worse abi? It could have been 200k, 500k, 1million but it was only a measly 100k? Hiss.  And tomany times, a lot of religious people commit this false dilemma fallacy, take for example the crisis in Haiti where a 65 year old woman was pulled out from the rubble after 7 days, a guy on my facebook was saying that it was a 'miracle'. He did not seek other 'alternatives' to explain what had happened, until somebody on his friend's list explained to him why it would be possible for somebody to still be alive after 7 days inside the rubble'. Now if nobody had told that guy why it was possible, his faith would have been 'strenghtened' and when he meets people like me he'll say stuff like 'You do not understand/know what I've seen and been through in this life to make me put all my faith/trust in God.' Don't lie, most of you have heard people say this and you have probably been the ones who've said this.
My point to people like Chuks is this, your faith might make you be a 'good' person and Enoch I am
putting quotation marks around the word 'good' because of the discussion you and I had about it.But seeing as these good people are not privy to the discussion I will use the word 'good' for now. So as I was saying jare, Chuks and people like Chuks, your faith might make you be a good person and you might be charitable, kind, generous etc. But ask yourself what your faith is really based on? Is it based on 'Truth'? What is the foundational bases of your faith?
And does it matter to you whether your faith is based on a Truth or a lie? Because in the Dark Knight at the end of the movie when Batman took the blame for the 'two-faced' dude and told the cop to let the people of Gotham think that it was Batman who had been the bad guy because it was important for the people of Gotham not to lose faith. This is what Batman said "Sometimes, truth isn't good enough, sometimes people deserve more. Sometimes people deserve to have their faith rewarded."
My question then to you all would be, do you want your faith to be based on Truth or do you want it to be based on lies? Personally I want mine to be based on Truth, not just on a lie. Even if the lie brings about goody goody stuff, but the foundation is still a lie. As I was telling Chuks, I would rather be 'mad' with the truth than to be 'sane' with lies. I hope I have succeeded in teaching you all something lol.
This is not to say that I believe all 'Faith' is based on lies, am sure that there might be some 'Faith' how there there can be based on 'Truth'. And how do you discover the 'Truth' by asking questions. And how do you know when a belief is not based on 'Truth' when people 'cringe' or try to shut you up when you sincerely ask them for the basis of their faith. Formerly Stealth Reader and Chuks/people like them I honestly ask you to check/verify that your faith is based on 'Truth' not on a 'lie'. Or maybe it might not matter to you all what your faith is based on, as long as it promotes 'good' etc.
Chuks has been trying to get me to 'open my heart' and welcome the Lord Jesus into my heart and I've consistently told him that it really is not easy being a christian. To be a good Christian, one must have the ability to delegate the responsibility of thinking from their brain to the anus. No offence lol.

So in other words ... some Faiths are just tools fabricated by a liar to help man do the 'right' thing...

The examples you give are fictitious and not based on reality - Batman? Crash? Please, they are far from concrete.

But what does it matter if people believe the good things that occur in their lives is a blessing from God? Isn't it rather pompous to think otherwise?

You remind me of a nouveau born again christian, only this time you are a 'born again' (un)believer who is fanatical about his unbelief!

I found your last paragraph hilarious, but your unbelief is still somewhat baseless as you are yet to find the 'truth' about how man and earth became... no one knows hence the reason why we follow different belief system. Seeking truth will remain man's unending journey where death alone provides all the answers.

"To be a good Christian, one must have the ability to delegate the responsibility of thinking from their brain to the anus. No offence lol."

Oh my...you are funny.
There are a lot of Christians that are capable of separating their faith from the pursuit of science and logic. The two can co-exist.

Question: who do you thank after a close call like an accident?
Do you say, "oh thank God!"

Or do you say, "oh thank the logical decision of this individual who could have killed me but his quick reflexes based on his unusually high intellect because he was able to forsee the danger of the moron speeding swerved quickly enough."

Rene said...

I totally agree that we should question everything. Good thing you said not all faith r based on lies

Azazel said...

Huh?? Anonymous those examples can be found in everyday life..
I give u my haitian example, and am sure u do not need me to provide real life examples because they are all around u..
Lol @ isn't it rather pompous to think otherwise, even though there is proof to show that it is not through God??
Homie i must say, I think u are rather daft..
Lol @ fanatical about his unbelief?
Me a fanatic? I rebuke it in jesus name.
I ask questions and challenge the currently held 'beliefs' and when they cannot provide satisfyin answers then obviously it would be absolute foolerey to keep on practicin such faiths..
Dark Neo
yes 'some' faiths not all faiths.

Azazel said...

Lily a lot of people misuse that 'Thank God' phrase a lot.
I've seen people use it for the most stupid things, if we are going to thank God for savin us, we should also thank him for our sufferng as well.
Take Haiti for example, maybe we should thank God that only 100k people died afterall it could have been 500 thousand.

Rene exactly my point.. I am a fair person. I would not overgeneralize like that.

EDJ said...

I agree with Lillith, science/logic and faith can coincide. To say that they cannot is to act out a "False Dilemma". When you say that a person is not a "real Christian" unless they "elegate the responsibility of thinking from their brain to the anus." you are creating a False Dilemma.

Why can't I believe in God and believe in science without being a "bad christian"?

Neo said...

LucidLilith, ur analysis about the accident was sound.

@ Azazel, could it not be seen that it was God's hand that made the daughter take the bullets out of the gun. However divine God is he chooses to work through people sometimes and maybe because its easier for some people to work that way.

On Haiti, if a 60 smth year old woman can survive without food for 7 days can we say the same for the 22 day old baby that was pulled out of the rubble?

what can we define as logic, other than what has been accepted over time to be sane? who says that logis is truth? what is truth minus CONFORMITY with reality? if one person accepts it and others rapidly follow then credence is lent to a fact, nes pas? who says the people roaming the streets naked are not the ones who have it right and the rest of us are deluded? after all people were running around saying the world was flat and people who dared to say otherwise were killed, till it one day they said the world was round.

human nature has a tendency to deny the things that cannot be explained. i wont question ur logic if it can explain my miracles.

Azazel said...

Because u would be going against what your own bible says..
U cannot serve two masters @ the same time. U can only choose one..
Now I disagree with that statement but the bible and our lord God thinks different.
@ Neo
I never said Logic was truth, how does that make sense? Read what I wrote again. Never said logic was truth I said that through logic/questionin/reason one can reach truth.
Faith does not give answers it just stops people from asking questions

Azazel said...

And Neo thank u for this statement
@
human nature has a tendency to deny the things that cannot be explained. i wont question ur logic if it can explain my miracles
And that is all I ask for, that ppl be open-minded to the 'explanations'.
Lol how can the people roamin the streets be right? I mean they might be. But on what basis are u arguing on? basis of the bible or of common sense?

Interesting story

Sometimes, truth isn't good enough, sometimes people deserve more. Sometimes people deserve to have their faith rewarded.

Azazel what else can be more than truth?
i ask because i dont know
pls enlighten me

Lol wat do u mean sweetness? Idk o

El-Divine said...

hehe..azzl, i hereby proclaim u king of controversy-land. for me, I am both a good xtian and as good a questioner of reality as anyone else. the two not only cn coincide, but they actually complement each other. Bible does not defy logic, unless u interpret it so, bcos u know all of us interpret things differently. so sometimes, u think ur being objective while ur not. ur presumptions and conceptual frameworks affect everything u perceive.
as for the "two masters analogy" it continues with "cos u will either hate one and love the other or vice versa." case in point, try balancin career and family. u myt think u love both, but there r times when it comes to choosin one over the other. the one u choose at the time shows d one u really love. i admit we dont always face that dilemna but Jesus said dis when a yung man had just been given the option of his money or follown christ. at dt time he knew which "master" he really was serving.
as for basin ur belief on truth, i cnt argue with that. the search for truth is an individual one...goodluck finding yours.

Azazel said...

El Divine where did I say that the bible 'defies' logic?? Read this whole posst and show me where I said that.
U assume that I said that bro

Myne said...

Not to belittle your article but you took me back with Crash. That was one of my best movies of that year. Just Great!

I'm enjoying your exchange with Neo, make una continue.

Azazel said...

It was an awesome movie Myne..
And I really did love the fact that people where capable of making such an awesome movie.

F said...

Crash was a fantastic movie... I do get the point about misinterpreting mundane coincidences as the hand of God. For instance, a normal occurrence like missing one's train or bus is accorded supernatural status if it coincides with avoiding a disaster (e.g. those who couldn't make it work at the WTC early enough on 9/11)

However, I think that it is possible to hold Christian beliefs and still question things. Most Christians do it all the time, especially concerning the eternal Achille's heel of the religion: the problem of evil.

Your posts are always interesting... Really wish you could interview one of those evangelical irritants like John Hagee or Pat "Haitians deserve the earthquake cos of their devil pact" Robertson... I would pay to see that, LOL.

Azazel said...

Lol thanks F
Let not your heart be troubled, once Fox News employs me I'll definitely be on the case of those fanatics. lol

Aniwoos to each his own o jare (as I usually respond to all your faith related posts). You choose to believe in what you want to believe, and me I go believe in what I wan believe. No shakings.

Faith shouldn't be rewarded if it is not in the truth. God is a holy God and a God of justice. If you don't believe in what is true, He won't supposedly change to adjust to your needs. He does not change. He is perfect. If He ever went against His Word, He would not be God.

The late jurisprudential prodigy and international statesman Sir Lionel Luckhoo (of The Guinness Book of World Records fame for his unprecedented 245 consecutive defense murder trial acquittals) epitomized Christian enthusiasm and confidence in the strength of the case for the resurrection when he wrote, “I have spent more than 42 years as a defense trial lawyer appearing in many parts of the world and am still in active practice. I have been fortunate to secure a number of successes in jury trials and I say unequivocally the evidence for the Resurrection of Jesus Christ is so overwhelming that it compels acceptance by proof which leaves absolutely no room for doubt.”

Azazel said...

Lol @ original Mgbeks..
u no serious o,....
And chuks it'll take me awhile to respond to ur whole essay o

Enoch said...

Wow. Talk about home run. Azazel, you get better with every keystroke.

I'll touch on two issues. The issue of lies based faith and faith coexisting with science.

Lies based faith: Christians please answer me this. What's your threshold for an event before it warrants God's influence? I get that he intervenes to save geriatrics from rubble in Haiti and is responsible for every car crash survivor. But If we dial down the potential loss, when does he get disinterested? Would he save a terminally ill octogenarian in the rubble even if she's guaranteed to give up the ghost the next day? Does a cat stuck in a tree fit his job description? Does he care for rusting street lights? Does he heal the painful tummy upset of a toad?

If there are certain things that your God couldn't care less about, who is to say that some of your miracles don't fit that description?

If God doesn't care for you(like the 300k that died in Haiti) and Satan is busy wrecking havoc elsewhere, when you survive a deadly event, like a car crash, under such circumstances what do you call it?

So yes LucidLilith when I survive a crash that's exactly what I say! It is my good fortune that all the contributing factors fell in place to deliver my survival nothing more.

Faith coexisting with science is a funny paradox that certain brands of Christians wear as a badge. Christianity is a treatise on science being imbecilic and Science is a thesis on Christianity being bullshit. Claiming that you can have both coexisting is imbecilic bullshit.

@Chuks
You're kidding right?

@Mgbeks
we r missin u o

This is why I say that you need to understand the Word of God to understand the things of God. I am honestly starting to get frustrated with you..its no joke anymore..u refuse to read but want to claim you know..and before you understand His Word, you need the Holy Spirit (remember the verse that I sent u on facebook)..the devil can do no good..NOT ONE..anything that he does that appears good or appears to be in ur favor, is a curse in disquise..God is always with His children..it is His promise..He promised never to forsake us..even thru the rough times, He is there..its funny that you say we should thank God for the bad things bcuz the Bible says IN ALL THINGS, GIVE THANKS..that is what we should do first and foremost when we come to God..then we should pour out our hearts to Him because He knows..there is no point trying to hold back..God has His reasons for everything..we simply wont understand all of His actions and we are not to..we are to have faith, trust, and believe that He is in control which He is..His ways are not our ways and neither our His thoughts our thoughts..
and is is everyday that you hear someone surviving 7 days under such circumstances..it is obvious to see that God played a role in that situation..everything happens for a reason..I dont know how long I can further discuss with u when u wont simply do ur research..everything I say, I back it up with the Bible and that is simply why I can understand prove some things better than u can..u may not realize it but u are at unrest..I am at peace with myself and God and I am trying to show you that peace..
Without a shadow of a doubt, my faith is based on the Truth (Chrsit)..it does matter whether ur faith is based in the Truth or not..

Realist said...

@ LucidLilith using the "thank God" example.

The reason we say thank God is because we have been programmed to say thank God from an early age. The reason we scream Jesus at a scary moment is because everyone has been screaming Jesus since we were born. I "Oh shit" when i get scared, does that say anything about "shit".

@Azazel, without faith it is impossible to please God. You are seriously displeasing God now...lol

Unknown said...

without realizing it, u are fulfilling the prophesy of the Bible..the Bible says that "the fool says in their heart that there is no God"..there is overwhelming evidence (both in the Bible and in the world as we know it) that proves Christianity..if u not willing to are to simply do ur own part, then I don't know what to tell u..u have no idea of how much I read about other religions (Islam, Judaism, Buddhism, etc) to get to where I am now in Chrsitianity..

Enoch said...

@chuks
Can you give me a lil pitch as to why you believe the bible?

Azazel said...

Lol realist I still wonder about who u are o. But I like your comment and u should honestly consider opening up a blog lol

Azazel said...

Huh @ Chuks???
What evidence is there???
Lmao because Jesus is not in the tomb does not mean he resurrected...
His disciples could truly have taken him from that tomb..
His disciples never even fully believed him even till the very end lol.

Enoch I am sure u will think it is by chance the universe is designed the way it is..teleological argument. The teleological argument states that since the universe displays such an amazing design, there must have been a divine Designer. For example, if the Earth were significantly closer or farther away from the sun, it would not be capable of supporting much of the life it currently does. If the elements in our atmosphere were even a few percentage points different, nearly every living thing on earth would die. The odds of a single protein molecule forming by chance is 1 in 10243 (that is a 10 followed by 243 zeros). A single cell is comprised of millions of protein molecules.

there is no such thing as chance or coincidence..even our DNA is carefully and precisely put together unless we all would have abnormalities..
and God is aware of EVERYTHING..the Bible says that not even a single strand of hair falls 2 da ground without Him permitting and knowing it..as insignificant, that one cell in ur body may seem, it is not 2 God..just because those people died doesnt mean He doesnt care about them..

Realist said...

@Chuks... there is overwhelming evidence that proves Christianity? where?

@Azazel... i thought of opening my blog because i have too many opinions on too many things, but i dont want to bore the blogger world with my rants...lol As per who i am... i go to school in Tennessee

Unknown said...

@ Enoch my main reason that I believe the Bible is God's effect on my life and my experience of Him..my other reasons are archaeological evidence, countless fulfilled prophesies, and its willingness to have us test it as it says to test all things..God has nothing to hide..i will further explain 2 u why the disciples couldnt have taken the body

Azazel said...

Ha Enoch mehn I appreciate how u really come in and disperse us with your awesome logic.
So true @
Faith coexisting with science is a funny paradox that certain brands of Christians wear as a badge. Christianity is a treatise on science being imbecilic and Science is a thesis on Christianity being bullshit. Claiming that you can have both coexisting is imbecilic bullshit

Realist said...

@Chuks... lol @ you using the bible to validate the bible.

The earth you are talking about, is the same earth that the church wanted to kill Galileo because he said it wasnt the center of the Universe.

I really do not buy the whole the earth is so magnificently made and placed right, that there has to be a divine creator. You are using the same logic my friend uses, "because there is no evidence to the contrary, there must be a God". Not so... we just could not know the answer yet.

Moral of the story, your argument will not win any debate.

Realist said...

@Azazel, yup... I bleed RED

Enoch said...

DNA that yields abnormal creatures would be weeded off the gene pool due to natural selection. Darwin was no lightweight you know. Look into evolution.

this is the explanation as to why the disciples didnt and couldnt have stolen the body had supposedly the guards had all fallen asleep on duty

First, the disciples stole the body. If this were the case, they would have known the resurrection was a hoax. They would not therefore have been so willing to suffer and die for it. (See the first line of evidence concerning demonstrably sincere eyewitness testimony.) All of the professed eyewitnesses would have known that they hadn’t really seen Christ and were therefore lying. With so many conspirators, surely someone would have confessed, if not to end his own suffering then at least to end the suffering of his friends and family. The first generation of Christians were absolutely brutalized, especially following the conflagration in Rome in A.D. 64 (a fire which Nero allegedly ordered to make room for the expansion of his palace, but which he blamed on the Christians in Rome in an effort to exculpate himself). As the Roman historian Cornelius Tacitus recounted in his Annals of Imperial Rome (published just a generation after the fire):

“Nero fastened the guilt and inflicted the most exquisite tortures on a class hated for their abominations, called Christians by the populace. Christus, from whom the name had its origin, suffered the extreme penalty during the reign of Tiberius at the hands of one of our procurators, Pontius Pilatus, and a most mischievous superstition, thus checked for the moment, again broke out not only in Judaea, the first source of the evil, but even in Rome, where all things hideous and shameful from every part of the world find their centre and become popular. Accordingly, an arrest was first made of all who pleaded guilty; then, upon their information, an immense multitude was convicted, not so much of the crime of firing the city, as of hatred against mankind. Mockery of every sort was added to their deaths. Covered with the skins of beasts, they were torn by dogs and perished, or were nailed to crosses, or were doomed to the flames and burnt, to serve as a nightly illumination, when daylight had expired.” (Annals, XV, 44)

Nero illuminated his garden parties with Christians whom he burnt alive. Surely someone would have confessed the truth under the threat of such terrible pain. The fact is, however, we have no record of any early Christian denouncing the faith to end his suffering. Instead, we have multiple accounts of post-resurrection appearances and hundreds of eyewitnesses willing to suffer and die for it.

Enoch said...

@chuk
You seem to be doing exactly what Azazel pointed at and what I also wrote my first post about. Attributing all the positives in your life to an imaginary God.

Countless fulfilled prophesies? Archaeological evidence? Are you for real?

Take a moment and pause. Still your mind and tell me what about your experiences convince you beyond doubt that God enabled them?

Azazel said...

LOL REALIST i think I now know who u are. smh
But real talk @ ur reply to Chuks..
That's what I keep telling the kid. His arguments would never stand up in a logic scale. sigh
Enoch ur question to Chuks about what has convinced him about God has been the same question i've been asking him. Till today he still can't provide a good answer. Chuk please u can like to answer Enoch's questions.
Go read about constantine and yes I definitely fouled up when I gave as a reason against jesus's resurrection by sayin his dsiciples stole him. i was going by what the bible said. Maybe he was cremated? :)

Unknown said...

Enoch I have went thru the first round with Azazel..i dont really think u will understand let alone be convinced by my story..one reason is that the Holy Spirit is not with u..i am not attributing all of the positives..God never promised that we would have it all good..He did promise that He would see us thru if we trust in Him..I simply dont know what it will take 4 u to be convinced..and yes i am for real about the evidence plus more..please have Azazel forward u the facebook message..that was it in a nutshell..
u didnt respongd to my response bout His disciples taking His body?

Enoch said...

@chuk
Abeg see Azazel's point.

What if the son of God's body was taken grave robbers? or Cannibals? lol

If you still believe god is responsible for car crash survivors in this century then I'm sure back in the time of the disciples, there were and infinite and 1 things that could have happened to Jesus' body that will still leave room for the disciples to believe wrongly that he resurrected.

Azazel said...

It wouldn't be the first time that there had been a graveyard robbery..
people steal bodies everytime.

Unknown said...

u werent very clear Enoch..so u r saying that the guards wee deceived or were bribed..it is beyond obcvious that Jesus actually was resurrected..just admit it..i am not sure if u guys are truly 'open'..it seems like ur bent on ur ignorance..there couldnt have been infinite and 1 things that happened to it because Chrsit knew He was gonna be raised from the dead and made sure that He did

Unknown said...

please repent and give your life to Christ.. thats all He is asking..He isnt asking u 2 surrender ur last penny 2 Him or even die on the cross the way that He did.

Enoch said...

I am saying that. If today people look at improperly toasted bread and claim they can see Mary mother of God then a million things can pass for a ressurected christ. Limted only by my crceativity. Maybe one of the disciples was his gay lover and vowed to steal the body? Maybe there was a mixup in the tomb address? Grave robbers. I dunno.

Christ has not asked me himself o! so I don't know what you are talking about giving my life. Let him come and ask me so that I can say no to his face.

Chuk, I long for hell with a burning passion.

I understand why ppl base faiths on lies. Lies are comforting, soothing, and are usually ass-kissers, who wouldn't want a healthy dose of that in their daily lives? Ppl would rather that, than be stuck with the truth that hurts. IBut just like too much sweets gives ppl jedi-jedi, lies can fuck up ur whole perception of reality causing you to be deluded in more lies. Thats where u can't put ur faith in, because lies will always fail u, so seek the truth and it shall set u free

Azazel said...

True talk Messiah..
The truth shall set you free but first it'll make you miserable lol.

The Messiah said...

Azazel, any good achievement in life starts with some form of misery, whether by hard-work or mental stress, but afterwards you'd be in total bliss. It's better that way than the other way around

..I simply wonder what excuse u will have for God..spirituality did exist before all these other religions (not Christianity)..u two remind me of the Pharisees who went around disturbing Christ and who thought they knew the Law but Jesus knew it better than them..there came a point Jesus was convinced that they wouldnt enter His kingdom

Unknown said...
